Active Drug Information

The active drug in Lovento is sildenafil citrate, which belongs to the category of class of drugs PDE5 (phosphodiesterase-5) inhibitors. Tadalafil, Vardenafil, and Avanafil are other drugs that belong to the same class of drugs. Most physicians recommend sildenafil as the first choice of drug for men who are newly diagnosed with ED because of its high efficacy rate and success rate. The FDA approved this ED drug in 1998.

Sildenafil treats ED by augmenting blood flow to the male organ during sexual excitement. This augmented blood flow to the male organ causes an erection on sexual arousal. Another intended use of sildenafil, under the brand name Revatio, is pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), as it relaxes the muscles and dilates the arteries in the lungs, boosting overall blood flow. Remember, sildenafil citrate present in Lovento does not cure ED or PAH permanently.

Mechanism of Action

Lovento (generic sildenafil) is a selective PDE5 inhibitor, a specific enzyme that the body naturally produces. Upon ingestion, sildenafil negates the secretion of PDE5, stopping the degradation of a substance called cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (cGMP). When this mechanism of action takes place, the body secrets a potent chemical known as nitric oxide on sexual arousal.

Nitric oxide relaxes and dilates the tiny arteries in the penile organ, allowing blood to flow freely across the spongy penile tissues when men are sexually excited, eventually causing a stronger and durable erection. This way Lovento works to boost erections in men. The medicine does not cause an instant erection on its own. It is imperative for you to be sexually aroused in order to get an erection and sustain it.

Dosing Instructions

• Lovento should be taken an hour before planning to intending to indulge in sexual activity. Always keep in mind that the drug will work only in the presence of sexual arousal.
• You must take a whole tablet with water for proper drug absorption. If you have been using any other medicines, check with your doctor and ask how to use them with this generic ED drug.
• For the best effects, take the medicine on an empty stomach and avoid fatty foods. Fatty foods may delay the effectiveness or nullify the drug’s effects.
• You must avoid alcohol, illegal drugs, grapefruits, and high-fat meal before taking this generic ED medicine.
• Take Lovento once in a duration of 24 hours. Do not take more than one dose in a day or two, as overdose is associated with an increased risk of side effects.

Storage and Disposal

• It is important to keep Lovento tablets out of the reach of children. Place the pills in a safe and secure location.
• Store the medicine at room temperature, preferably in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight or moisture.
• If you have pills that are no longer in use and are outdated, make sure you discard them carefully, ensuing that nobody uses them.
• Do not flush Lovento pills down the toilet. Talk to your pharmacist on how to dispose of the outdated or unused pills.

Precautions and Warnings

• Lovento drug is not for men who are taking medications such as alpha-blockers, nitrates, protease inhibitors (HIV medications), or any other impotence drugs.

• Nitrates or nitroglycerine used for treating chest pain or angina
• Amlodipine or alpha-blockers used for treating high blood pressure
• Protease inhibitors used for treating HIV/AIDS
• Erythromycin or clarithromycin used for treating bacterial infections
• Itraconazole or ketoconazole used for treating fungal infections
• Other ED drugs such as avanafil, tadalafil, or vardenafil

Contraindications

Men with following medical conditions are prohibited from taking Lovento tablets:

• uncontrolled high blood pressure
• heart disease
• cancer, leukemia, sickle cell anemia
• retinopathy
• penile deformity (Peyronie’s disease)
• sildenafil allergy
