Active Drug Information

The active ingredient in Cenforce is sildenafil citrate, a drug that falls under the category of pharmacological agents known as PDE5 (phosphodiesterase-5) inhibitors. Other drugs that belong to PDE5 inhibitors are tadalafil, vardenafil, and avanafil. Sildenafil citrate is one of the most widely prescribed medications for men with ED, although it was originally invented for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).

Sildenafil in Cenforce treats erectile dysfunction by boosting blood flow to the penile organ during sexual arousal. This elevated blood flow causes a penile erection on sexual excitement. Sildenafil is also sold under the brand name Revatio to patients with PAH, as it relaxes the smooth muscles and dilates the blood vessels in the lungs for enhanced blood flow. Remember that sildenafil does not cure erectile dysfunction or increase sexual drive.

Mechanism of Action
